Although questing provides very good experience per hour, it is possible to exceed that by powerleveling through instances. A level 80 partner is needed to do this.

World of Warcraft powerleveling through instances does not involve using the Looking for Group (LFG) tool and finding five people to do Scarlet Monastery in two hours. Instead, a level 80 player is used to run a few lowbies through at a rate of five instances an hour. In some cases, this may result in experience gain that is faster than efficient questing.

Level 80 Runner

The level 80 WoW player can make much more gold from dailies than looting lowbie instances. Some dailies can generate over 23 gold for 5 minutes of work such as those involving the Argent Tournament. Because of this, it's best to trade runs rather than pay WoW gold or real life money. Do not be offended if level 80 players require 25 gold for just one run. Look at it from their point of view.

The best level 80 players to run lowbies through instances have an ability to AOE, self heal, and DPS. Paladins are the best but many other classes can do this as well. Try to do instances as quickly as possible by doing it all in one or two pulls.

The level 80 runner should not collect loot with the exception of blues off of the bosses. They can make much more WoW gold from doing dailies than looting and posting auctions on some of the loot. Looting also reduces the XP/hour for lowbies.

Gear for Lowbie WoW Players

If the lower level player has a level 80 main, the main should try to collect bind on account (BOA) gear that provides a 10% experience gain bonus such as BOA gear available from the Wintergrasp vendor.

Some players may be able to utilize Blizzard's Recruit a Friend (RAF) program to use RAF's experience bonus, which is 300%. The bonus is earned only while the two friends are grouped together and are within 3 levels of each other.

During the actual instance run, the most important activity for the lowbie player is to not die. Experience cannot be gained in ghost form or as a corpse. In most cases, it only takes a few seconds for an elite mob to kill a low level player. Throwing heals to the runner or adding AOE damage may be helpful to the level 80 runner, but make sure the lowbie doesn't draw aggro and get killed in the process. Watch out for mobs that were missed by the runner as well.

Scarlet Monastery Powerleveling

The minimum level to enter the Scarlet Monastery (SM) instance is level 20 even though the summoning stone near SM requires level 28. From level 20 to 40, a low level player can be powerleveled exclusively through SM. That makes SM the instance of choice for so many instance powerlevelers.

The advantage of SM is that it can be done quickly, up to five instances an hour. The map for SM Cathedral is very simple and short. The entire instance can be done in one pull by a paladin runner.

For those that want to powerlevel faster than questing, finding a good level 80 runner to help powerlevel in instances may be the way to go. Combined with RAF and BOA gear, the levels gained inside just SM can be very fast.
