World of Warcraft Announces Dual Talent Specs

High Level WoW Players Rewarded With Two Talent Specializations

Feb 17, 2009 Kevin Hickson

The development team at World of Warcraft recently announced the future addition of dual talent specs available to players who have reached maximum level.

Blizzard Entertainment announced the intended changes to the high level talent system the week of February 9, 2009 and is yet to announce an implementation date. The theory behind this dual spec talent system is that high level players may have the desire to participate in more than one area of the game at one time – for example arena play and high level raids. This was always difficult due to the high cost of re-specializing talents, not to mention gear!

This change will allow players who have reached maximum level to pay a one time fee for the service. Once the fee is paid, the player simply needs to set up both talent specs and use a Lexicon of Power to make the change.

WoW Talent Changes – PvP, PvE, Raids, and Arena Specs

This change is an exciting development for high level WoW players, to be sure. Many players and guilds have the desire to play, and excel, at both dungeon raids and arena or PvP content. As these areas of the game are so different, World of Warcraft players are often built well for one area, but lacking in the other. To make changes costs a good deal of gold, so having a relatively simple and inexpensive way to play in both parts is appealing.

In addition to the expanded talent and glyph options, there will also be a secondary action bar tied to the new talent spec. Another quite useful and time saving feature for high level players, whose action bars are filled with spells and abilities gained through talent points. There are even plans to implement a gear switching system as well, though it may not be tied to the dual talent spec.

New Talent Point Distribution System for World of Warcraft?

Senior Game Designer Greg "Ghostcrawler" Street also discusses allowing players with the dual talent spec option to distribute their talent points with the option to save the spec. This is an excellent upgrade saving both time and point allocation errors, another costly situation. After testing, the developers may also decide to expand the new talent system beyond the proposed dual talent spec.

The ability to dual spec talents should prove to be a boon for high level players wishing to participate in multiple areas of the game. The proposed upgrades to the talent system, hotbars and glyphs will grant WoW players a new flexibility, and save them gold in the process. The changes have not yet been implemented, but Street says the test patch realms (PTR) should see the changes far before the wider audience.
