World of Warcraft Unveils Next Generation of Raid Encounters

The upcoming WoW patch, version 3.1 promises an immersive and greatly expanded raid system for high level WoW players - siege vehicles and an optional hard mode await.

The upcoming patch version of World of Warcraft is a continuation of the Wrath of the Lich King’s promised raid expansions. A more difficult and immersive experience than Naxxramas, Ulduar is split into two stages, each promising unique and challenging experiences for the raid group. To date, World of Warcraft has detailed only the first stage of Ulduar, promising siege vehicles, fourteen boss encounters, and optional hard mode.

New WoW Raid Experience: Ulduar Stage One

Ulduar, World of Warcraft’s upcoming raid expansion patch is divided into two stages. The first is described as an epic battle, as the raid group encounters an iron army guarding the entrance to Ulduar. According to Blizzard Entertainment, players will have to utilize the various siege weapons and vehicles available during the encounter.

Each vehicle will have special abilities and functions – choppers, demolishers, and siege engines, for example. Choppers can drop a pool of liquid tar that can be ignited by area attacks, while demolishers can load passengers and launch them behind enemy lines.

As part of the Ulduar stage one encounter, players will come face to face with a fearsome tank - the Flame Leviathan. Raid Groups will have to make judicious use of the siege vehicles to outmaneuver and defeat this boss. Ultimately, players must be launched from the demolishers onto the Flame Leviathan’s back to disable and sabotage the defensive turrets.

World of Warcraft Announces Hard Mode

WoW also plans to implement hard mode with the v3.1 patch, Ulduar. Hard mode is an expansion of heroic mode, introduced with the Burning Crusade expansion. Raid players who want an even more challenging experience, not to mention better loot, may initiate hard mode by using player controlled triggers or variables.

For example, the more of the defensive towers that are left on the field during the Flame Leviathan encounter, the harder that encounter will be. Of course, in WoW, with the increased difficulty comes increased rewards – hard mode promises greatly improved loot.

WoW Patch v3.1 – Ulduar

Ulduar appears to be a promising and exciting improvement to the raid system included with WoW Wrath of the Lich King. The immersive raid scenarios, with barely the surface scratched during the Death Knight starting area are sure to be both tough and captivating.

The integration of siege vehicles, the addition of hard mode, and the obvious decision to take WoW raiding to the next level all seem to be a good direction for World of Warcraft to take. WoW Patch v3.1 Ulduar will most likely be an immersive and exciting addition for high level raiding players.
