Dungeons and Dragons Online: Eberron is a free to play massive multi-player role-playing game which has eleven unique classes to play.

In Dungeons and Dragons Online: Eberron Unlimited (DDO), which is developed by Turbine, Inc., players have the ability to choose between eleven unique classes that fill a variety of roles. Every class has its own purpose and excels in different situations, so no class should be thought of as "worthless".

The Rogue Class of Dungeons and Dragons Online

Specialist classes are those which excel at specific activities. They can tide the turn of battle with their unique abilities and can also access areas of dungeons that other classes cannot access. If a player wants to play a class that can adapt to every situation with their skills, but not play in a group, these classes are not for them. The rogue is one of these classes.

Rogues are described by DDO as "Rogues use stealth and a variety of masterful techniques to disarm traps, unlock doors, and take down enemies with devastating sneak attacks."

As DDO says, Rogues can be incredibly helpful to a party with their ability to disarm traps and unlocks doors and treasure chests. Rogues are the only class that can disarm traps in the game and one of three classes that can unlock things (the other classes being the wizard and sorcerer with the spell "knock".) Almost all of the later dungeons have some type of locked door or chest, so this ability is especially useful.

Combat-wise, rogues can be especially devastating with their sneak attack ability. Because rogues can so effectively blend into the shadows (which means that enemies cannot see them when they use this ability), rogues can sneak up on the target. When the rogue attacks and hits the target, it'll bring them out of the shadows, but they will do bonus damage for sneak attacking. A complete list of rogue feats and abilities can be found here: http://compendium.ddo.com/wiki/Class:Rogue

Rogues also have the highest spot and search ability in the game. It makes them highly effective at finding secret areas in dungeons.

Basic Stat Points of a Rogue

A level 1 ranger's stats are as follows:

  • 10 STR (Strength affects the chance to hit and how much damage is done. It is an important trait for rogues that wish to increase their attack power.)
  • 16 DEX (Dexterity is one of the most important stats for a rogue. It raises the armor class of the character and reflex saves. It also improves a lot of the rogue skills.)
  • 10 CON (Constitution affects that total health points a character has and also affects their fortitude saves. This stat can be useful to a rogue, but because they can hide in the shadows and sneak attack won't be a main factor for them.)
  • 16 INT (Intelligence affects many of the rogue skills.)
  • 12 WIS (Wisdom affects will saves and some of the rogue abilities.)
  • 8 CHA (Charisma has little to no affect on a rogue. It is only used in some multi-class abilities.)

Is the Rogue a Good Class?

The rogue is a very good class, depending of who is playing it. A rogue character cannot be played as a tank (a tank is a character which can last in combat for a long time, taking constant damage.) Rogues must be sneaky, attacking, and then fleeing when the battle is turning tides in the opponents favor.

Rogues are especially useful to parties with their ability to access secret areas, disable traps, and unlock doors and chests. They should be considered for any group that wants to get the most treasure and experience out of the dungeon.
