There are over fifty-seven jobs that a character can become in Maplestory, a free 2D side-scrolling MMORPG.
In the Massive Multi-Player Online Role-Playing Game MapleStory, players are given a selection of fifty-eight jobs (number current as of 9/9/2009) to play as. Each job has its own strengths and weaknesses, as well as its own special abilities.
How to Gain the First Job in MapleStory
Players first begin their time playing MapleStory as a Beginner on Maple Island. When they reach level 8 they will gain a quest called “Job Recommendation.” This quest will quiz them, and then recommend a job that you should take. If players don't like the job that is assigned to them, that's okay, as they don't have to take that job.
The following are the five jobs that players will have available to them:
(Note: When players select their job, they will be allowed to redistribute their status points. So, as a beginner, it is best to put most of the points into STR and DEX. Also, players can become their desired job after the noted level, but they will lose skill points.)
Pirate
Players can become a Pirate in Nautilus Port
Players must be level 10
Pirates have a variety of skills that allow them to use melee (Knuckles) or ranged attacks (Guns.) They also have skills to raise their accuracy, avoidability, and a dash attack to increase attacking mobility. Pirates are similar to Thieves and Warriors in their attacking styles, but are faster.
Thief
Players can become a Thief in Kerning City
Players must be level 10
Thieves, similarly to the pirates, can either use melee (knives) or ranged attacks (throwing stars.) The Thief's melee damage isn't as strong as the Warrior's, but it is faster. Similarly, the Thief's ranged damage is faster than the Bowman's, but not as strong. Thieves have the highest avoidability in the game.
Mage
Players can become a Mage in Ellinia
Players must be level 8
Mages are the only first jobs characters that can do magical damage. Their skills raise their MP, strengthen their defense, and cause damage to be taken from their MP, instead of their HP. Magic attacks work in the air, and they can be used within close proximity to monsters, so they work well in most situations. Mages have low HP, but high MP. During the first levels as a Mage, it can be very costly (Meso wise), as players will need to purchase many HP and MP potions.
Warrior
Players can become a Warrior in Perion
Players must be level 10
Warriors have the most HP out of all the classes. They are able to do the most damage, as well. Their attacks do the full amount of damage in one hit, unlike the other classes whose damage is done in multiple amounts. This means that if a Warrior misses often, it can cost them the battle. Warriors also only have close-ranged melee attacks.
Bowman
Players can become a Bowman in Henseys.
Players must be level 10
Bowman are experts at ranged attack.. Their biggest disadvantage is that when a monster moves near them, they will not be able to shoot arrows and can only try to knock them back. They also possess no close ranged melee attacks. Bowman use either bows or crossbows with the correct ammunition (arrows or crossbow bolts, respectively.) Unlike the Pirate's bullets or the Thief's throwing stars, these can not be recharged. So new bowman will need to purchase a large amount of ammunition to use. Monsters frequently drop this ammunition, though, so after the initial purchase a Bowman will rarely need to buy more.
What is After the First Jobs in Maplestory?
Once players hit level 30, they will be able to advance to the second job level. Each of the first jobs has multiple paths to branch out onto. For instance, the Wizard can become either a Priest, a Fire/Poison Mage, or a Ice/Lightning Mage. Players will find themselves enjoying the more specific approach to the skills they have, as they will fit the player's playing style more.
