The Fighter Class of DDO Eberron Unlimited

Dungeons and Dragons Online a Free MMORPG

Dungeons and Dragons Online: Eberron is a free to play massive multi-player role-playing game which has eleven unique classes to play.

In Dungeons and Dragons Online: Eberron Unlimited (DDO), which is developed by Turbine, Inc., players have the ability to choose between eleven unique classes that fill a variety of roles. Every class has its own purpose and excels in different situations, so no class should be thought of as "worthless".

The Fighter Class of Dungeons and Dragons Online

Melee classes typically fight in close-hand combat and have little in the means of magic spells. They possess a high constitution, which gives them a large amount of life. Most melee classes also have a high strength and defense, which makes them an effective tanking character. Due to these attributes, the solo-ability of melee characters is fairly high. The fighter is one of these melee classes.

Fighters are described by DDO as "Fighters can use a wide variety of weapons, all types of shields, and the heaviest armor. They can also train in more combat abilities than other melee classes."

This means that fighters can use a lot of melee weapons without penalty. As many other classes that don't possess this trait, they will gain a -4 to their attack roll. For example, a player is playing a rogue, but wishes to use a hammer as their weapon. The rogue would incur a penalty, while the fighter would not.

Being able to use all types of shields and the heaviest armor makes the fighter a great tanking character. The high armor values of their equipable armor will reduce the damage they incur, so they will last in a fight longer.

The sentence "They can also train in more combat abilities than other melee classes" specifically refers to a character’s feats. Players are allowed to pick from a certain number of feats when they are creating their character, and then gain additional points as they level up. In addition to feats, as the character goes up in ranks, they will gain enhancements.

The high amount of feats that a fighter character has to pick from allows a player to create a playing style that is unique and fun for them. Feats for a fighter include things such as damaging multiple enemies at once, raising weapon proficiency for a certain type of item, or knocking an enemy unconscious. A complete lists of feats and enhancements for the fighter can be found here, on the official DDO website: http://compendium.ddo.com/wiki/Class:Fighter

Basic Stat Points of a Fighter

(Please note that these stats are based on the recommended path for the class, by DDO. Depending on which path the player picks, or if they customize their path, the stats will change.)

A level 1 fighter's stats are as follows:

  • 18 STR (Strength raises a fighter's ability to hit and the amount of damage dealt.)
  • 12 DEX (Dexterity raises the chance of reflex saves succeeding and also affects a characters armor class
  • 14 CON (Constitution raises a fighter's hit points and affects fortitude saves.)
  • 8 INT (Intelligence measure how many spell points a character gets and what spells they have access to. For a fighter, this stat is minimally important.)
  • 10 WIS (Wisdom affects spells, which a fighter does not have access to.)
  • 8 CHA (Charisma has no effect on the normal game-play of a fighter. The stat may be used in some of their abilities, though.)

Is a Fighter a Good Class?

The fighter is rated as having a good solo ability, which means that a player playing as a fighter should be able to complete a dungeon by themselves (not on all difficulty modes, though.) The game recommends fighter as a beginning class for players, and it is a safe first class to play.
