Dungeons and Dragons Online: Eberron is a free to play massive multi-player role-playing game which has eleven unique classes to play.

In Dungeons and Dragons Online: Eberron Unlimited (DDO), which is developed by Turbine, Inc., players have the ability to choose between eleven unique classes that fill a variety of roles. Every class has its own purpose and excels in different situations, so no class should be thought of as "worthless".

The Favored Soul Class of Dungeons and Dragons Online

Spell characters are typically ones that fight at a long ranged with their magical abilities. These characters rely on spell points to cast their spells. Spells points can be replenished by resting at a town or inn, using a potion, or using a rest shrine. Spell characters typically lack a good strength and defense, so they do not excel at close ranged combat. One of these spell classes is the favored soul.

Favored souls are described by DDO as "Wielding divine magic to both heal and destroy, favored souls have fewer spells than clerics but can cast more often."

Favored souls are most comparable to the sorcerer class, as they cannot change their spells at a rest shrine or in an inn. In order the chance their spells, players must visit the favored soul trainer and pay him a sum of gold. Favored souls, also similar to the sorcerer, begin with knowledge of all of their spells, so they do not need to inscribe scrolls like the wizard. Favored souls also gain bonus spell points from items, just as sorcerers do.

Favored souls are also similar to clerics, as their spell selection is identical. Both classes have access to spells that both heal and destroy. The only difference is that clerics can pick to use more spells at once, whereas favored souls have a high number of spell points.

A favored soul can chose to fight in melee combat, if they wish to. Favored souls have proficency with simple weapons, shields, and light and medium armor types. While this doesn't make the favored soul a better melee fighter than the paladin, it will allow the favored soul to live longer in battle, especially if the favored soul runs out of the spell points. The favored soul also has access to special feats that raise the amount of damage that is done with certain types of weapons. Basic Stat Points of a Favored Soul

(Please note that these stats are based on the recommended path for the class, by DDO. Depending on which path the player picks, or if they customize their path, the stats will change.)

  • 10 STR (Strength affects both the ability to hit and how much damage is done. This stat is important for a favored soul that wishes to fight in melee combat.)
  • 10 DEX (Dexterity affects armor class and reflex saves. Its use is somewhat diminished by the favored soul's ability to wear medium armor.)
  • 12 CON (Constitution affects the total number of health points and also affects fortitude saves.)
  • 8 INT (Intelligence has little role for a favored soul, unless it is with a multi-class skill.)
  • 16 WIS (Wisdom is one of the most important stats for a favored soul that wished to fight with spells. It affects the amount of damage that their spells will do and how likely it is for an enemy to resist them.)
  • 16 CHA (Charisma is the most important stat for a favored soul. It affects spell points and spell access.)

Is the Favored Soul a Good Class?

The favored soul is a decent class, that is no mistake. It possess a good variety to healing and damage spells and also has more spell points than the cleric. But, the favored soul is also a class that players need to pay for to use. Because of its great similarity to the cleric, it's really not worth it to pay for it.

Unlike the monk, which can play a unique role in parties, the favored soul really has nothing new to add. And, for the player that wishes to play the favored soul anyways, the class is unlocked when players reached 2500 total favor.

(Note: In order the reach this amount of favor in DDO, players will need to have unlocked or purchased some of the adventure packs, as players that possess only the free quests can only gain 902 total favor.)
