Mousehunt Tips Hints and Cheats Guide

The Keys to Success on HitGrab's Addictive Facebook Game

Nov 8, 2008 Jay Davies

Find out what is required and the best ways to rise through the ranks and areas on Facebooks Number 1 mouse-related game by HitGrab.

With Mousehunt constantly expanding, it can be quite a challenge for new hunters to progress and know just what to do, and what not to do.

Before reading on why not find out a bit more about the history of Mousehunt by Clicking Here.

Ways to Improve the Mousehunt Experience

Patience is a Virtue

Patience is required while playing Mousehunt and not only in the literal sense. Players may have to be patient until the next blow of the horn, but the real patience comes into it when waiting for a map piece, saving for a new trap or gaining enough points to level up.

There's no point in getting annoyed every time a piece of cheese is stolen, or a Mutated White steals some points or gold while hunting that elusive Lycan in the Mousoleum. The best thing to do in this situation is to take a deep breath, wait for the next horn and if a release of frustration is really necessary, head to the boards and have a good old-fashioned moan.

Cutting and running from an area just because a of a few red boxes in a row is also ill-advised, as travel costs are a real squeeze, especially for Mousehunter's of a lower level and can really add up whilst going unnoticed.

Experimentation

Don't be afraid to experiment with different setups and cheeses in different areas, as some mice are known to be more likely to be attracted to certain cheeses. On the other hand don't be too hasty to change a winning formula. Some hunters believe that if you are on a lucky streak it is best to stick with that setup rather than switching to a trap with better stats, while others take an opposing view. This is very much personal preference and is upto each individual hunter to decide upon themselves.

Things to Remember in Mousehunt

DTE (Don't Trust Everyone)

While the Mousehunt community is a friendly one, there are some unscrupulous members that will happily agree to trade, only to do a disappearing act once the half of the trade that benefits them is carried out.

The marketplace used to be the safest way to aquire Super|Brie+ from other players, but that has since been replaced with the 'Trading Hub' which is equally as safe, and should eradicate scammers IF everyone dealing with strangers uses it. It charges a 10% tariff but this is a small price to pay for piece of mind.

Competitions are also a great way for Hunters to get a little gold or Super|Brie+ boost, however as with most things in life there are people ready to exploit vulnerable Hunters by asking for a 'buy-in' before the competition begins, and then choosing a friend to 'win' before splitting the loot between themselves. That being said there are some that are some very good, legitimate buy in competitions(Naked Girl's Deal or No Deal contests for example), but as with the trading, don't be afraid to ask someone more experienced or active in the community before parting with hard earned commodities.

DTE Part 2 (Don't Trust Everything)

Numerous 'fake' locations have been cooked up on the boards, and although most are easily noticeable as jokes, some hunters have wasted gold, time and rare cheese following bogus instructions posted by other members.

While a lot of useful information is posted on the forums and the Mousehunt Wiki, bear in mind that the Wiki can be edited by anyone and that sometimes hunters on the message boards like to have a joke from time to time, so it's best to double check information or instructions before blindly following them.

Things to Avoid in Mousehunt

Beggars can't be Choosers

Begging for gold is not acceptable on Mousehunt and should be avoided at all costs. While it isn't written in any of the rules, it is heavily frowned upon, as long-time Hunter Ben Gwynne explains:

"New players should feel free to ask for advice, but not handouts. If the long time players think you could do with a helping hand they will give it, but directly asking will make people look at you in a bad light, and ultimately stop you being accepted into the community"

Begging someone to sell you some Super|Brie+ on the other hand is perfectly acceptable.

Finally...Cheating

While there were one or two ways to cheat at Mousehunt, they have been pretty well dealt with by the Developers and serious cheaters will inevitably be found out and removed from the game.

When asked about cheating Amie Pearson, another long-time MouseHunter said :

"There's no point to cheating at Mousehunt, its tough sometimes but it adds to the fun and makes it more satisfying when that great catch finally comes along.

"If you're considering cheating on Mousehunt, then there isn't much point in you playing the game. Like with most things, there's no accomplishment if you just cheat your way to the top"

The Mousehunt Community

Mousehunt is a great game that has developed a strong following and a good online community, and although occasionally some members may not get on, there is always someone willing to help out a hunter in need, if they ask.

Here are a couple I simply couldn't fit into the article:

Be Social, but not TOO Social

Facebook is a social networking website, so it makes sense to get on the Mousehunt boards and make a few friends. These friends can also be invaluable when it comes to information and, more importantly, starting hunts.
Although being social is a good thing, Facebook policies tend to err on the side of caution when it comes to spammers, and they do state in their Terms that if a member is posting excessively on message boards they can and will suspend or remove that account. While a lot of posts are necessary to raise suspicions, Mousehunters are encouraged to be careful not to get on the wrong side of this policy.

Know the Basics

Reading the Mousehunt starting guides and the Wiki is a good way to find out what you need to know. Knowing the difference between power and accuracy, or what map is dropped in what location by what mouse is useful information to have and it can all be found easily by clicking through the tabs at the top of the game. Remember the Wiki can be edited by anyone, but fake information on there is a rarity now that the Moderators are keeping an eye on it.

"Fastest & best ways to get gold" posts usually get the same response "put cheese in you trap and hunt". And while it may seem as though there's some quick and secret way to get gold (which is actually donating for SB and then selling it which is not favourable for those of us with no real world money, lol) when really you've just got to hope for some loaded mice to faint in your trap.

Following a thread from beginning to end also helps. It often become obvious who is being straight forward and who is trying to have a laugh at confusing people. Bottom line, have fun, catch mice, and sleep when you can :)

Tip By Nikos Gkogkopoulos:

Never leave a king's reward and leave!

If you leave a kings reward and didnt put the code, the game will not issue any trap checks and you won't be taken on any hunts.

Its like pausing the game till you give it the right code to continue!

Not EXACTLY cheating...

My advice to those hunters needing the 'goods' [ie traps], try donating for Super Brie. Sell this brie for about 600GP per piece, then get out there and buy that Drillbot or the Polar base from the travelling shoppe.
The sooner you get the tattered map fragment of the dojo [90,000gp] sorted out the sooner Mousehunt becomes a strategic game.
For those of you NOT wanting to donate, you'll need to go to the Laboratory and pick up a few potions, then you can convert your brie into radioactive blue. Then get over to the Mouseoleum where the real money lies. You'll get up to the 100,000GP mark faster this way.
Good hunting!

It seems like the best advice on catching the Mole (White Cheddar in the Meadow) is good only if you want to spend your time in the Meadow looking at an empty trap. Every White, Brown, or Gray that walks by will just turn their nose up, giving you a fail. You're better off waiting to catch him in Digby, where you have a chance to catch some other mice with the White Cheddar as well.

What I really want to know is, how many points are required for each rank? I can't seem to find a table for it anywhere...

I was worried when the search for cheats brought this up, but I am happy with what I've found. Good work! :D

About the question when it comes to how many points are needed to gain in rank, the simple answer is that there isnt a table for them because ranks arent solely dependant on how many points you earn, ill quote from the Wiki:
Rank advancement is not based directly on the points earned. So, rank will not increase through the bonus points earned through King's rewards, sounding the horn, Lab Research, etc. Instead the rank progress bar increases through the hunter's activity in the game. Rank will advance for trap checks and for going on hunts (even if the hunt is unsuccessful in attracting a mouse or unsuccessful in trapping an attracted mouse) and for catching mice. So a hunter may see their rank improve by hunting and trap checks even though they aren't catching a lot of mice (though this will be at a slower rate than if they actually catch mice).
Hope that helps =]

The MouseHunt community is generally well intentioned, but they do come across as somewhat retarded. They seem like a gaggle of grinning, gurning simpletons who live only to congratulate each other in cloying overtones for the most trivial of 'achievements' and demonstrate a distinct lack of higher brain function. Anything other than the most basic, childlike humour is lost on them, they have a passion for long lists of meaningless statistics and erroneous use of punctuation and they actually relish the state of aggressive censorship imposed by the Bowdlerizing cowards at HitGrab.

The game itself is interesting enough for a while, but for players with an IQ of more than the combined number of their fingers and toes I advise avoiding the so-called 'communitay' like the plague.
