Hallow's End Event in World of Warcraft
Celebrate Halloween Fun With Tricks and Treats in Online World

Children and adults around the world love celebrating Halloween in late October. The massively multiplayer online role playing game (MMORPG) World of Warcraft (WoW) allows players to celebrate the holiday in the fantasy world of Azeroth. There are many quests, companion pets, weapons, trinkets, and a mount for fun things to do and collect. Players can even trick or treat in-game!
Trick or Treat in World of Warcraft
Players can visit most of the inns in Kalimdor, Eastern Kingdoms, Outland, and Northrend to go trick or treating. Talking to innkeepers allows players the option to "trick or treat" where they might collect a treat bag, or be put into a temporary costume. The items in treat bags can lead to achievements.
Each inn also has a candy bowl and apple bob tub. The apple bob gives the player 5 apples which serve as food and give a well-fed buff after eating for long enough. Each candy bowl is a once per event quest that gives the player an amount of any of 4 candies that work as player buffs. Each of the candy bowl quests gives the player an amount of gold relative to their level.
Headless Horseman Quest
For players in levels 70-80, a new daily quest is available for the duration of Hallow's End. The quest is begun at some of the starting faction towns, such as Goldshire. Players eventually must make their way to the Scarlet Monastery in Silverpine Forest. Then, a group of 5 players must enter the graveyard and summon the Headless Horseman. Each player may only summon him once per day, so if the group dies, that try is forfeit. The fight isn't very difficult for level 80 players, but it takes a while since the horseman loses his head several times.
Halloween Items Available
Several new items are introduced to the game. While players can only acquire them during the holiday event, most of them are permanent and will remain after the event is over. Many of them are obtainable from the headless horseman quest, and some are available from the candy bowl and innkeeper quests. The headless horseman has a chance to give some weapons, a companion pet, a mount, and some rings.
The innkeepers might give a treat bag, or transform the player into a temporary form, such as a bat or a wisp. The treat bags can contain a wand for changing party members' forms, some candy, a flimsy mask, a companion pet, or a helm.
Achievements
Many in-game achievements can be acquired during Hallow's End. From trick or treating at every one of your faction's inns, to completing the headless horseman quest, completing all the achievements during the event gives the player the special achievement "Hallowed by thy Name" and the title "The Hallowed." There is an achievement for being transformed by each of the available wands. A harder to complete achievement is to collect all 20 of the flimsy masks. Since each mask has a very low chance of dropping from the treat bags, it is unlikely that players will complete that achievement during one year's event.
In 2009, Hallow's End starts on October 18 and ends on October 31. It repeats every year around Halloween. The World of Warcraft official website has more information about the event.
