October brings Hallow's End to the World of Warcraft. Stuffed with trick or treat candy, player characters don Flimsy Masks and battle the Headless Horseman.
Hallow’s End is World of Warcraft’s answer to Halloween, and celebrates the freedom of the undead Forsaken from the domination of the Scourge. Originally a Horde holiday, Hallow’s End is now celebrated by both Warcraft Factions. As might be expected, tricks and treats play a dominant role in the Hallow’s End festivities. Players can try their luck at candy buckets set up in inns, and receive either a treat bag or a trick (usually a magical transformation). Players can also collect Flimsy Masks to wear, each of which represents a male or female of a playable race. Players can also transform other players with Hallowed wands, turning characters into bats, ghosts, and a variety of other forms. Faction Rivalry and Hallow’s EndNot that Hallow’s End is all candy, costumes and the inevitable post-candy upset tummy. The conflict between the Horde and the Alliance never ends, and Hallow’s End is no exception. Each faction strives to spoil the other’s spooky festivities. The Alliance attempts to disrupt the Horde’s Wickerman festivities, while the Horde uses stink bombs to spoil the holiday in Southside. PVP players may want to snack on the G.N.E.R.Ds candy, as every honorable kill while under a G.N.E.R.D buff counts towards the G.N.E.R.D Rage achievement. Beware the Headless HorsemanWhat would Hallow’s End be without a macabre and spooky enemy to defeat? The Headless Horseman bedevils both Horde and Alliance with his mischief and tendency to speak in awful rhyming couplets. A Hallow’s End quest chain is available that ends with his death (and the chance he will drop his skeleton mount or some epic armor). The HallowedAs with all World of Warcraft events, Hallow’s End provides players with opportunity to earn achievements. Completing the Hallowed Be Thy Name achievements earns players the title of “the Hallowed,” and brings characters one step closer to the ultimate event achievement, What a Long Strange Trip it’s Been. Hallowed Be Thy Name achievements include:
Hallows End runs from approximately the 18th of October to the 1st of November. Players have a month to recover from their candy overdose until December, when the Winter Veil event brings holiday cheer (and a dose of mayhem) to Azeroth.
