Playing the online game FarmVille to its fullest requires some strategy and planning to determine which crop to plant to make the most money in the shortest time.

FarmVille is a fun and easy online game, with cute bunnies and cows that moo and frisky down-home music that sounds like it's coming straight from Arlo Guthrie's backyard, but for those who like to get really down and dirty, managing their crops for optimal profit is the key.

Deciding which crops to plant can be a bit tricky, but with a little forethought it doesn't take much time to realize which plants make the most game money. Players should remember to include the cost of plowing in their calculations. Plowing costs 15 game coins per square and has 1 XP (experience point) each.

Calculating FarmVille Profits and Experience Points for Online Crops

For this game, when determining the amount of profit for each crop and which plants make the most money, the calculations should be based on a 24 hour day to help keep all things equal. As an example, if the calculation is being done on pumpkins, which are an eight hour plant, figure on three crops of pumpkins per 24 hours (this is literal time, not game-playing time.) Three crops of pumpkins will cost 45 coins to plow (15 coins each time), seeds will cost 90 coins (three times 30 each) so the total cost of pumpkins per 24 hour period is 135 game coins. Gross income from three harvests equals 204 coins (three times 68 each).

The final figure to be calculated, which the player should base his planting decisions on is the net profit. The net profit from pumpkins in a 24 hour period equals 69 coins per square (204 gross profit minus the total cost of 135.)

The experience points (which help players attain new levels in the game) for these three pumpkin harvests is six points (multiply three harvests times two points – one point for plowing and one for planting.) This can be done with all of the plants to determine which ones will show the most profit or experience points during the 24 hour period.

To get started, the net profit calculations (including the cost and XP of plowing) for FarmVille's online game through level 20 are as follows:

  • Strawberries: The game pays 35 coins, they take 4 hours to grow, yield 1 XP and cost is 10 coins. Net profit per day is 60 coins and 12 XP.
  • Eggplant: The game pays 88 coins, they take 2 days to grow, yield 2 XP and cost is 25 coins. Net profit per day is 24 coins and 1.5 XP.

There are a lot of hints and tips for FarmVille to improve a player's experience and chances for success. Crop planning is just one of them, but it is an important part of a strategic plan. Farmers who want to profit even faster can work on expanding farm size from the original plot of 12 by 12 squares can expand to 14x14, 16x16, 18x18 or larger.

FarmVille game farm expansion can be done by raising the number of neighbors and paying coins or by using FarmVille green bucks. With the enlarged farming areas, profit can be quickly raised to a whole new level.

For decorative purposes and something a little different, it is possible to make hills and retaining walls for your Farmville game farm using fencing and an optical illusion.

the crop profit calculations is full of errors on the XP for day.

Robin Montanye :
Excellent point. Thank you for bringing it up. The calculations for the crops INCLUDE XP for plowing in their daily numbers. The experience that is received should include these figures when comparing crops because a crop that is plowed three times a day will give 3 experience points for plowing alone.

ok your chart looks ok but i can see 1 huge error. it is impossabel to harvest an hourly crop the max times in a day. you must include time to harvest plow and plant. on a 2 hour crop you will get 10 plantings/harvest in 24 hours. a 4 hour crop you will get 5, a 6 hour crop 3, a 8 hour crop 2, a 12 hour crop 1.

this is based on the maximum returns....unless you can harvest and plant in zero time then it is impossible. In addition a person would have to be on the game 24 hours a day...a more realistic calculation would be to base it on 16 hours per day maximum.

Another point that you have overlooked is the ideal harvest time and number of harvest times per day for the individual player. By standardizing everything around a 24 hour cycle, you assume that the player has absolutely nothing else to do during the day except sit waiting for their crops to be ready for harvesting.

I have created a chart that allows the player to pick the best option based on their next desired harvest time and whether they are looking to maximize their profit in coins or the XP gained.

i think everyone should stop complaining. the chart is very helpful because it gives you so much info. yes its impossible to do each crop in 0 min inbetween harvest and planting but thats not the point. point is to simply give you a good idea of what the GENERAL pay of a crop will be.

Is the blueberry calc correct?

Robin Montanye :
The blueberry calculation was incorrect. The money was correct, but the XP is 12 not 6. Thank you.
