Farkle on Facebook is Free Fun

Like Yahtzee but Different, Compete with Friends and Strangers

Farkle is another free and fun game on Facebook.com. Playing the free game will eventually unlock Pro level for online competitions with other players.

Facebook.com has many great games to play online. Farkle is a dice based game that is similar to Yahtzee. Five dice are thrown and certain combinations earn points. The vast difference in Farkle is that if none of those combinations show up on each toss, any points not “banked” are lost.

Three Farkles in a row is an additional 500 points subtracted from total score. So the trick is to make sure to bank points after one or two Farkles to avoid that dreaded third Farkle.

Tricks of Farkle : the Game

There are a few tricks to keep in mind while playing the game. The one dice earns a hundred points but a five only earns fifty. It’s usually a good idea to only select the ones unless there are at least three of the fives. That actually goes for all the dice. Any three of them gives the player more points. For instance 3 of the fives earns 500 points, 3 of the fours earns 400 and 3 of the twos earns 200. One is the only exception. If 3 of those are thrown, 1,000 points is earned. If 4 of the same number were thrown, then that amount would be doubled. So if 4 twos were thrown, it would be 400 points. If 5 twos were thrown, 600.

There are other combinations, such as 3 pairs of any numbered dice earns 750 in one toss, and 1 through 5 earns 1,500. See screenshot for more detail (link to game is above pic). Dice can continue to be thrown until either the player banks the points earned or gets a Farkle.

Farkle is Fun and Frustrating Gambling

The game is both fun and frustrating, since it involves gambling. At least one points-earning dice has to be held in order to throw the rest. Once at least 300 points have been earned, clicking on the total in the left column will bank them.

The gambling part is trying to get the points of each of the 10 rounds as high as they can go before getting a Farkle. What is a Farkle? It’s when a throw results in no dice that has earned points. For instance if three dice are thrown and they are 2 twos and a 4, that would be a Farkle. Any points not banked would then be lost, and the next round would begin.

Play Farkle Solo or in Competition

This game can be played by itself, or player can compete with other friends. There is also a Pro level where a live game can be played with other people on Facebook. The Pro version takes either 10,000 chips or $9.99. How are the chips earned? Well, 25 chips are awarded at the end of every game up to 150 a day. Friends can also give others friends 100 chips a day. There are even offers with other companies to earn chips. It just depends on how fast the player wants to make Pro without having to pay for it.

The disadvantage of playing the basic version is that ads are played after about three games of Farkle. It’s not too bad since they can be skipped a few seconds into the ad, and then player is taken to a new game. It's a small inconvenience for being able to play such a fun free game.
