Warriors are base tank class in Everquest, and the standard on which the programmers and game designers working for Sony Online Entertainment base their comparisons. They are not the highest damage melee class, and they are not quite as skilled at holding aggro as the shadow knight and hybrid classes, but they have higher armor classes, attack values, and the ability to dual-wield weapons that puts their damage per second values above the other plate wearing classes of Norrath.
Everquest warrior leveling is achieved most quickly. Soloing as a warrior is possible up to a certain point, but after level fifty or higher, they will need to join groups or find suitable classes to partner with. Shamans are often the most common choice for characters that run multiple accounts on different computers.
The warrior, rogue, berserker, and monk are more gear dependent than the other classes in Everquest. The ability of pure melee classes to do perform their most important group role is determined by these characters using the best possible equipment. Good weapons help a warrior keep the attention of his groups opponents. Taking the brunt of the damage is all a group expects out of a warrior, and the same is true for raiding guilds.
An Everquest warrior should focus on completing the newbie armor quests and getting a decfent weapon when he enters the world of Norrath. He will need to replace weapons and armor every few levels to keep up with the harder hitting mobs.
When the warrior leaves Oasis, West Karana, or the zone where he spent level 10 through 19 leveling, he should be grouping more frequently. He can still solo easy at these levels, but a regeneration item is necessary to reduce down time. Bandages can reduce this further, but the problem with soloing is that the warrior has few ways to kite. The Everquest warrior levels the fastest when he has the chance to go face-to-face with monsters in groups or while duoing.
The in-your-face nature of the warrior will not change as he gets into higher levels and begin raiding, but if an Everquest warrior practices his grouping skills and gains a reputation as a good tank, he should be able to work his way up through the levels fairly quickly and find a good raiding guild to join. High level guilds always need more warriors.
