Clerics are the premier healing quest in Everquest. Leveling up a cleric can be easy or difficult, but that depends on whether a player chooses to solo or group with his cleric. Soloing clerics do not level quickly or well. The class is designed for group support, and its solo capabilities are almost non-existent.
The lack of solo capability is no problem for a competent Everquest cleric working his way through the leveling process. This happens whether or not the cleric indicates whether he is looking for a group. Clerics are the only healing class in the game that can bring people back from the dead.
Learning How to Heal Well is the Key to Quick Cleric Leveling
The leveling guides for other Everquest classes can be broken down into where to go, soloing tactics, and what the group well can be. Clerics get groups easily and should be prepared to travel to the zones where a group asks them to go.
Being a good healer takes skill, but the art is timing and using the heals correctly. Complete healing take 10,000 hit points, but not all classes need such a large heal. The 10-second casting time for complete heal may mean that if a character with lower hit points gets attacked by a mob, the character will not be alive when the cleric finishes casting the spell. The short-lived but high hit point per second regeneration spell celestial cleansing works even better than complete heal when casters or damage per second classes get aggro.
Rewards of Leveling a Cleric in Everquest
The challenges of playing a cleric in Everquest are the same from the early levels roaming through the zones surrounding Everquest's major cities to the high level raiding zones that are now instanced. The cleric only does one thing well: healing others. Some buffs can help the cleric keep his group alive longer.
The psychological component of putting up with incessant buff and resurrection requests from other players has caused some people to switch to another less demanding class. Unlike wizards, who had their roles changed from high damage to teleportation later in the game, most clerics knew this when they rolled their character. Most clerics are kind people who like helping others in and outside of their games. If the kindness does not work, Everquest clerics can also call upon the powers of their gods to smite their enemies.
