Dragonscale leatherworking is best suited to hunters and shamans who do not switch to blacksmithing after level 40.
Dragonscale leather working is a trade skill specialization available to leather workers in World of Warcraft. The items that can be produced from the dragonscale patterns include a large variety of mail, which is worn only by shamans and hunters in the game past level 40. A player who learns dragon scale leather working may not learn the other leather working specializations, tribal or elemental.
In order for a World of Warcraft character to learn the dragon scale specialization, he must be at least level 40 and have a leather working skill of 225 or higher. Once a character meets the prerequisites, becoming a dragonscale leather worker is simply a matter or turning in the items needed for the quest.
Alliance Dragonscale Leather Working Quest
The Alliance dragonscale leather working trainer can be found in Azshara, which is to the west of Ashenvale. In order to get the quest and to turn the items in, a World of Warcraft character must locate Peter Galen.
The Horde version of this quest requires the leather worker to find an NPC in the Badlands named Thorkaf Dragoneye. Both the alliance and the horde versions of the quest require a player to turn in the same materials.
The request requires 14 items that will be handed into NPC that gave the player the quest. 4 of these items can be made using two leather working patterns, and the dragonscales the quest requires must be skinned from dragonkin mobs. A leather worker may either produce the armor pieces required himself or buy them from an auction house. Which method used will depend on how much time the player wants to put into the quest and how much money he wants to spend to gain access to this trade skill specialization.
A player will need:
Once all these have been gathered, a World of Warcraft character can go hand them in and gain access to the dragonscale leatherworking specialization.
Shamans and hunters benefit the most from dragonscale leather working as most of the armor pieces that can be produced with it are mail. These are the only two classes in World of Warcraft that gain the ability wear chain mail armor later in the game. The classes that start out with the ability to wear mail move to plate at the same level.
Hunters should focus on getting the Netherscale armor pieces at level 70, and shamans should make the Netherstrike armor. Of course, if a player already has the materials needed to make the armor sets mentioned above and does not have the trade skill and the specialization, it may be easier to track down dragonscale leather worker in the World of Warcraft that can make the desired armor pieces.
