Disturbing the Peace during Brewfest

World of Warcraft Celebrates the Brewmaster

It's World of Warcraft's Happy Hour! Celebrate Brewfest by putting down the dark iron dwarves and drinking strange brew.

Brewfest is World of Warcraft’s celebration of all things beer, and loosely based on Oktoberfest traditions. The festival begins around the 20th of September and continues into the first week of October.

Brewfest beer gardens can be found outside all the major cities for both Warcraft factions, and inside the city of Shattarath. The main beer garden for the Alliance is just outside Ironforge, and with the main Horde garden operating outside Orgrimmar.

Beer is the reason for the season, as far as Brewfeast is concerned, and characters can sample the drink from three rival brewers at the beer gardens—the Ogres, Thunderbrew and Barleybrew. Players can advertize the virtues of their favorite brewers in daily “barking quests.”

Drinking does have an effect in World of Warcraft. As characters get progressively hammered their speech slurs and they can no longer walk a straight line. More importantly from a gaming point of view, the screen begins to blur. Truly inebriated characters seem to be moving through a thick fog.

The Dark Iron Dwarves

The alliance and the Horde aren’t the only ones who enjoy a good brew. Every half hour the dark iron dwarves invade the Ironforge and Orgrimmar beer gardens, seeking to steal the beer. Players can defend the kegs by, well, guzzling beer and hurling the empty beersteins at the invaders.

The Brewmaster Title

As with other World of Warcraft events, Brewfest offers players a chance to perform quests and earn achievements. The title of earning every Brewfest achievement is the Brewmaster.

Brewfest achievements include:

  • Brew of the Month: Join that greatest of mail-order clubs, the Brew of the Month Club.
  • Brew of the Year: Consume twelve tyoes of beer supplied by the Brew of the Month Club
  • Brewfest Diet: Eat a list of savory Brewfest delights, including the rather dubiously-named pickled sausage.
  • Direbrewfest: Kill Coren Direbrew in Blackrock Depths
  • Disturbing the Peace: Wear three items of Brewfest clothing, get hammered, and dance in Dalaran.
  • Does Your Walpertinger Linger: Purchase the Wolpertinger pet, which can only be seen by party members and drunk characters.
  • Down with the Dark Iron: Defend Brewfest from the Dark Iron dwarves and complete the This One Time, When I was Drunk quest.
  • Drunken Stupor: Prove that a saint really does watch over fools and drunks by surviving a 65 yard fall during Brewfest. The character must be completely potted to earn the achievement.
  • Have Keg, Will Travel: Earn a Brewfest Mount.
  • Strange Brew: sample every Brewfest beer.

Perhaps the greatest prize in Brewfest is a Brewfest mount, which can be either a kodo or dwarven ram. Both rides drop from Coren Darkbrew when he is killed, although not all the time. Brewfest mounts are much sought after because they aren’t faction-specific. In other words Alliance can ride the kodo and Horde can ride the ram.

After Brewfest is out of the way it’s only a short wait until Hallows End, World of Warcraft’s answer to Halloween. Characters at least have time to nurse their hangovers before making themselves sick on candy!
