The Deathknight is a new hero class that has been introduced into the MMORPG game World of Warcraft with their latest expansion, Wrath of the Lich King.

The Deathknight can be any race, horde or alliance. It starts in Ebon Hold which is located in the Eastern Plaguelands. When Blizzard introduced their newest expansion for World of Warcraft, Wrath of the Lich King, on November 13, 2008, almost everyone that had the expansion made a Deathknight. There were so many deathknights the day of release that it was extremely hard to begin to do the starting quests because of the lack of quest mobs. Here it is two weeks later and you still can find tons of deathknights leveling up.

What makes the DeathKnight different?

This class is different from the others in that it does not use mana or energy or rage. It uses runic power and the skills are based on different runes. Those runes are as follows:

  • Blood
  • Frost
  • Unholy
  • Death

The death rune is a neutral rune and can be used in the place of any of the other 3 runes. IWhen you create a Deathknight, he or she starts at level 55 with 270 first aid and 270 weapon skills. They cannot wield a shield however they can dual wield. The class also wears plate armor. The Deathknight starts with no tradeskills but since they start at level 55, the tradeskills will not be all that hard to level up.

You get the quest for your riding mount at level 55 and can complete it at level 55. At 70 they can get the flying skill and flying mount. This mount is a skeleton gryphon and scales with your riding skill. This means no new mount for epic flying. They also starts with all the flight paths of the old continents (original content before the Burning Crusade expansion).

Different talents specs for the Deathknight

The talent specs for this class are:

  • blood (melee dps),
  • frost (tank)
  • unhholy (caster dps).

If the player specs unholy, he ends up with a ghoul for a pet to fight with him. Blood spec has the ability to heal himself. Frost tanks through mitigation more thank armor and gear. The initial talent points come from completing quests in the starting zone. Each quest gives experience, gold, possible items and between 1 and 6 talent points. This is to help you get the talent points you would normally have if you leveled from 1 to 55.

Requirements to make a Deathknight

With this being the only new class that Blizzard has introduced into the game since it's original release back in 2004, everyone wants to play it. So much overpopulation of one class would usually mean problems but Blizzard anticipated this and put the requirement down that the player must have a level 55 character on the realm that you want to create a deathknight on and you can only create one Deathknight per server that has the level 55 character. This helped some but only in keeping new players from making the class. In a game that has over 11 million current players, you can only imagine that they would have a ton of deathknights. Overall, the Deathknight is a fun class to play but with so many in the game right now, they have lost their shiny due to overpopulation.

Yes, our server (Aman Thul, Oceanic) has so many Death Knights on it currently that nobody wants to group with them for instances.
