Children's Week is a popular World of Warcraft even that allows players to earn minipets from the Shattrath, Orgrimmar and Stormwind orphanages.
Children’s Week is a World of Warcraft event that typically occurs in the first week of May, just after the Noblegarden event. The wars between the Scourge, the Burning Legion, the Alliance and the Horde have left many children orphans. During Children’s Week players can help the Orgrimmar, Stormwind and Shattrath orphanages by taking an impressionable child under their wing for the week. Horde players can pick up a little orc at the Orgrimmar orphanage, while Alliance players temporarily adopt a human child in Stormwind. Players summon their youthful ward with a whistle. The children offer a series of quests for players, most of which revolve around sightseeing, eating treats and acquiring toys. A player can complete the basic Children’s Week quests in a couple of hours. Once the quests are completed the child is returned to the Orgrimmar or Stormwind orphanage, and offers players the choice of one of three minipets—a rat, a piglet or a turtle. Higher level characters can perform similar quests at the Shattrath orphanage in Shattrath City, Outland. Alliance players escort a young Draenei while the Horde take care of a Blood Elf. The Shattrath children have quests similar to the other orphans, but the pets they reward players with are different, and include a baby Elekk training collar, Egbert’s egg (a half-hatched bird) and Sleepy Willy (a one-eyed demon critter). To win the Veteran Nanny achievement players need to earn all three of the Shattrath pets, which means they’d have to complete the Shattrath orphanage’s Children’s Week quests for three years in a row. Children’s Week AchievementsDuring Children’s Week players also have opportunity to complete the For the Children achievements, which count towards the ultimate World of Warcraft event achievement, What a Long Strange Trip it’s Been (which in turn wins players the coveted Violet Protodrake). Any player familiar with Warcraft’s bizarre sense of humor can easily guess that not all the Children’s Week achievements are activities the orphanage matrons would approve of! Here’s a quick overview of the achievements: Home Alone: Use your Hearthstone with your orphan summoned. Bad Example: Eat a series of cakes and candy in front of your orphan. Aw, Isn’t He Cute?: earn one of the six pet rewards. School of Hard Knocks: take your orphan on a tour of the PVP battlegrounds and complete various acts in each battle. Good wholesome carnage for the kiddies! Hail to the King Baby: Take your orphan to Utgarde Pinnacle in Northrend and slay King Ymiron. Perform all of these tasks and, in addition to exposing a child to the horrors or war players earn the title of Matron or Patron, depending on their toon’s gender. After Children’s Week players can relax for a while, as the next big event is Midsummer, in late June.
