Learn about Controller, Elemental, and Assassin skill trees, with hints, tips, and strategies to make an effective Siren build in Borderlands for Xbox 360, PS3, PC.

Borderlands offers a unique First Person Shooter / Role Playing Game blend with intense action. It features online cooperative multiplayer for up to 4 players just like Halo 3. But, instead of featuring an epic campaign like most FPS games, Borderlands features a mission-based, action RPG with experience points, 4 different character classes, leveling up, skill points distributed across three branches, and loads of loot.

The following strategy guide offers information, strategies, skill trees, and more on how to help players create a good Siren build.

Lilith as The Siren - Action Skill Phasewalk and Class Info

Action Skill Phasewalk (cooldown 36 seconds): The Siren turns invisible and gains greatly increased movement speed for 7 seconds. When entering and existing phasewalk, a phase blast surrounds Lilith and damages nearby enemies.

The Siren is the trickster of the Borderlands crew. She can offer the strategy of counters, similar to a Mage class in most RPGs, when focused on the Elemental skill tree. Or, she can focus on the Controller skill tree to disable foes, or focus on the Assassin skill tree and deal incredible one-hit melee blows, similar to a Rogue class. Players who appreciate hit-and-run tactics will enjoy playing as The Siren class.

Controller Skill Tree - Siren Skills List

The Controller tree greatly increases The Siren's toughness in combat, with numerous shield enhancement skills, but it also benefits combat by providing numerous skills which give the chance to "daze" enemies.

  1. Diva: Increases shield capacity by +5% per level
  2. Striking: Melee attacks have a chance to daze enemies, +20% chance per level
  3. Inner Glow: While in Phasewalk, health regenerates each second by +1-2% per level (+7% at level 5)
  4. Dramatic Entrance: Phase blast can daze enemies, +20% chance per level
  5. Hard to Get: Decreases cooldown time of Phasewalk by about 3-4 seconds per level (16 seconds at level 5)
  6. Girl Power: Killing an enemy increases shield regeneration by +1-2% per level (+7% at level 5)
  7. Mind Games: Each bullet has a chance to daze enemies, +5% chance per level

While this skill tree may lack stopping power, the shield bonuses Diva and Girl Power gives The Siren more toughness, while skills that add daze - Striking, Dramatic Entrance, Mind Games - greatly assist the team in co-op play.

Hard to Get allows for more frequent Phasewalk use - great for any build, but is unfortunately difficult to reach at tier 3. Inner Glow also benefits just about any build, especially as a "get out of jail free card" by allowing The Siren to escape most any situation and regenerate health at the same time.

The daze skills help in co-op play, particularly when a Hunter is in the group. At the same time, the health and shield bonuses make single-player play much easier.

Elemental Skill Tree - Siren Skills List

The Elemental Tree adds numerous opportunities to dish out powerful, elementally charged attacks - perfect for players who prefer to single out and capitalize on enemies' weaknesses.

  1. Quicksilver: Increases fire rate with all weapons by +5% per level
  2. Spark: Increases chance to cause elemental effects with weapons by +4% per level
  3. Resilience: Increases resistance to elemental damage by +6% per level
  4. Radiance: Deals shock damage to nearby enemies while phasewalking, based on character level and skill level, +1 shock per (skill) level
  5. Venom: Increases melee damage and adds corrosive damage, +5% melee per level
  6. Intuition: Killing an enemy increases movement speed by +10% and experienced gained (user and team) by +4% per level
  7. Phoenix: Killing an enemy causes fire damage (+1 per level) to nearby enemies, and adds chance guns won't cost ammo (+5% chance per level)

Quicksilver is an excellent skill for just about any build, but when paired with Spark and an elementally-charged machine gun or SMG, The Siren deals out punishment with frequent elemental attacks.

Resilience is only good for players choosing a more defensive route.

Radiance and Venom can be great for a more melee-oriented Siren build. Intuition is good for leveling up quicker, and Phoenix offers up some free fire damage, and a small chance to save on ammunition.

Assassin Skill Tree - Siren Skills List

The Assassin tree offers a more specialized style of combat, particularly with the final skill Phase Strike, which offers a huge damage bonus against a single target.

  1. Slayer: Increases critical hit damage by +5% per level
  2. Silent Resolve: After existing phasewalk, damage resistance increases by +14% per level
  3. Enforcer: Killing an enemy briefly increases accuracy by +7% and bullet damage by +2% per level
  4. Hit & Run: Increases melee damage by +7% and Phasewalk duration by +0.8 seconds per level
  5. High Velocity: Increases bullet velocity by +20% and and bullet damage by +4% per level
  6. Blackout: Killing an enemy reduces the cooldown time of phasewalk by 1.2 seconds per level
  7. Phase Strike: Exiting Phasewalk early with a melee strike deals an additional +160% damage per level

Slayer and Silent Resolve are both great skills for just about any Siren build, particularly Silent Resolve for players planning on using Phasewalk frequently. Enforcer and High Velocity offer unique bonuses to bullet-based weapons, the extra bullet velocity helps nail quick enemies before they have a chance to move.

Hit & Run helps for melee builds, but also works well when paired with Radiance from the Elemental skill tree. Blackout is another excellent skill for builds focused on frequent Phasewalk use, and Phase Strike offers an epic amount of potential damage in a single strike - great for tougher enemies.

The Siren Class Guide Conclusion

Lilith, The Siren, offers the trickiest of the four classes. She can focus on huge shield defense bonuses and chances to daze with the Controller skill tree, or she can deal huge damage with various elemental forces in the Elemental tree, or, she can even make for an effective melee-focused build with the Assassin skill tree.
